see, we still use paper too...A rather belated post to let you know that we are head-down in processing the Digital Culture Fund and Geek in Residence applications.

The Digital Culture Fund received approx 120 Expressions of Interest (give or take late or ineligible ones). Well over half of these had not applied to the Australia Council previously (which I'm rather pleased about!). An internal panel reviewed these before Christmas in a superfast turnover so the shortlist had as much time as possible to prepare for their 'official', peer assessed applications. I obviously can't tell you who those peers are, but they have been selected because of their engagement and experience within contemporary digital culture. And (more importantly, perhaps) they rock.

We are also busily reading our way thorugh around 40 Host and 120 Geek applications for the Geek in Residence program (give or take late or ineligible ones). We extended the deadline for submissions to this before Christmas, which has had an obvious knock-on effect to the selection dates. I can't say so much about that right now as it is a much more iterative process. Rest assured I will be contacting everyone with a decision whichever way it goes. As soon as I can... I will...

A report of the Digital Culture Fund assessment meeting including details of successful projects will be published on this blog and the Australia Council website following the assessment meeting at the end of February. We will *aim* to get a report on the Geek in Residence process and teams out around the same time... watch this space!

I must say I am entirely overwhelmed by the response to both these schemes. Thank you to everyone who applied for your enthusiasm and creativity, and thank you to everyone who forwarded the information to your networks. There are some amazing minds out there and I can't wait to see what comes next!

The very best for a shiney 2010; Happy New Year!
