crowdsourcing call: One of the DCF artists needs some help...

Seeking a Sydney venue for this Digital Culture Funded project, the Vinyl Ralley.

The vinyl rally is a large-scale interactive installation combining sound art, sculpture, video art, new media and competitive sports into every kid and kidult’s dream-hybrid; a kinetic, immersive, participatory play-set. The vinyl rally combines vinyl fetishism, video arcade mystique and the machismo of motor sports into a video game played within a real world setting!

Remote control cars will race on a track constructed from a mass of disused vinyl records, with styli attached to their chassis. The game play is created when sound and vision produced by the remote control cars are transmitted to an arcade were audience members control the car’s movements using reengineered video arcade racing consoles, and immersive video of the cars POV to navigate the course.

To house this project I’m seeking two adjacent rooms:

  • Arcade Room: To house two arcade style racing consoles, complete with video projections and PA systems I envisage a room at least 7 metres wide and almost twice as long to function.
  • Racetrack Installation: Will require a large open space to operate most effectively, the track will most probably be a metre or two wide and will snake around the venue depending on the restrictions of the room. Essentially the bigger the better as I’d prefer if possible to build an interesting course for the cars to navigate rather than a Nascar type circular track. Also important is high ceilings so our navigational trackers can work most effectively.

Time frame:

I will be needed the space for an estimated 4 months to build test and exhibit it the work. I’d like to begin the install in March, as the work will need to be purpose built for whichever venue it finally resides in. Once the work is completed I will exhibit in early to Mid June and will be able to pack down and clear the space by 1st July.
