FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

The digital era is all about learning together. We all have a lot of questions, so, as the name suggests, we will be adding those questions that you ask most often to this page. Some we will be able to answer immediately, others might take a bit longer, but we will answer!

Got a question? Ask us! Either in the 'comments' of any particular post, through the @artsdigitalera twitter account, or by email

Before we start, there is a Q&A on the two schemes here. Now, more generally...

1. Great. Where's the money and how do I get it.

We have two main schemes:

a) the Geek in Residence Program - 2009/10 closed.

b) the Digital Culture Fund - 2010/11 open for applications.

In addition, we have four strands of focus where we can offer help, networking, brokerage... if it comes under the four headings of Audiences, Domains, Incomes and Support, ask us and we will see what we can do.

2. How does artsdigitalera differ to Inter-arts?

Good question. Firstly we should explain that we are not saying 'if your art involves technology the only place for you to come is the digital program'. There are many fine examples of art that have been, and will continue to be, supported by the Australia Council's main grant programs. The 'Arts content for the digital era' strategic priority is adding to this mix by bringing some parts of the artistic community up to speed with new opportunities, and targeting practice that is otherwise not supported.

Inter-arts specifically is targeted at interdisciplinary art practice, which quite often happens to exist on digital platforms, but that is not its main focus. It is often research based, where artsdigitalera is in itself a sort of research program. In our two main schemes, we are experimenting with new models of support (Geek in Residence) and new commissions of work that has a 'live' focus, from people who might not traditionally approach the Australia Council, or who find it hard to connect their practice to the main grant programs (Digital Culture Fund).

3. I am already funded by the Australia Council. Am I therefore ineligible to funding from your program?

No. As a strategic initiative, we can be much more flexible than other grant programs. Having said that, we would always recommend you discuss any application with us before you send something in.

... we will add to these as you ask more.
